June 20,
Biblical
Family Advocates has been amazed by the remarkable
political passion and money being spent on the upcoming
national election. Each side will be spending hundreds
of millions of dollars and countless hours trying to get
their favorite candidate into office. But missing from
the grandstanding and partisan politics will be the
incredible spiritual need of this nation to repent of
its acts against Almighty God.
"There is an overwhelming silence of both church
and state to sound the call to repentance before
God and man when
America's
actual survival is at stake." So says Phil
Magnan, President of BFA. "It reminds me of the
words of President John Adams' March 23, 1798
national Fasting and Prayer proclamation in
which he said, "As the safety and prosperity of
nations ultimately and essentially depend on the
protection and blessing of Almighty God; and the
national acknowledgment of this truth is not
only an indispensable duty which the people owe
to Him, but a duty whose natural influence is
favorable to the promotion of that morality and
piety, without which social happiness cannot
exist, nor the blessings of a free government be
enjoyed; and as this duty, at all times
incumbent, is so especially in seasons of
difficulty and of danger, when existing or
threatening calamities, the just judgments of
God against prevalent iniquity are a loud call
to repentance and reformation;"

Magnan continued, "Instead of beating our
proverbial political chests, we should be
beating our breasts with sorrowful repentance.
Have we not perverted the gospel by ignoring
sin? We have allowed the slaughter of millions
of children each year by abortifacient drugs and
surgical abortion. We have been overcome with
greed for material happiness, forgetting the
kingdom
of
God,
the gospel and loving our neighbor. We have
allowed sex outside of marriage to become the
norm and have forgotten that the Word of God is
not optional; otherwise we will perish in our
foolish sins. Political power will mean nothing
if you are in direct conflict with God Himself,
which will only put us on the fast track to
judgment. We simply lack tears for our
wickedness and rebellion to God."
"As a fellow Pastor, I implore
America's
Pastors to devote more time to calling their
flocks to prayer, repentance and reflection.
America
has been weighed in the balance and found
lacking the spiritual depth to carry it into the
21st Century. We are truly on the brink of
national suicide as we have embraced
selfishness, immorality and ungodly politics. I
truly fear for our beloved and blessed land,
which has forgotten how to fear God. President
John Adams really was right, "the just judgments
of God against prevalent iniquity are a loud
call to repentance and reformation;"
